Music

President Obama once said, "The future belongs to young people with an education and the imagination to create." A Chinese Proverb also says tell me and I will forget, show me and I will remember, involve me and I will understand.  Theatre Arts is important to creativity and problem solving. It allows for communication, self-discipline, collaboration and cooperation.

In Music classes 4th and 5th graders are learning the art of puppetry to perform for the lower grades.   They are working  together in groups to create a puppet skit from a well-known book.  These classes are also learning to play the recorder. Third graders are learning the song Papaya Tree and are incorporating their own versions of movement, rhythms using different instruments.  Second  graders are learning to use puppets, and add dialogue to songs to make a short play.  Second graders will begin working on fables and retelling fables with puppets. They are using unpitched instruments for rhythm practice. Kindergarten and first graders have learned to use puppets. First graders are preparing for their performance in December on the  5th.  It will be “Christmas at the OK Corral.”  The students are creative and always engaged in music class utilizing theatre arts and music.

About Me

Hello, I am Sharon Dellinger.  I love teaching at Moss Hill Elementary. I am a Music teacher and I integrate Theatre Arts. I am looking forward to many performances on our stage.  I hope to inspire students and staff to be a part of theatre arts, music, dance, and visual arts while learning academics.

I have attended the Arts Integration Conference at the Kennedy Center.  I took an Academically and Intellectually Gifted class at East Carolina University to learn more about teaching higher order thinking skills and strategies.  I have attended Appalachian State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in music education.  I also went to Converse College and received a Masters Degree in Special Education.  I later graduated from the North Carolina College of Theology with a Doctorate in Christian Education.  I use all these degrees to make a difference here at Moss Hill Elementary.

I enjoy music and theatre arts, making costumes, baking, reading and spending time with my husband, Mike. He also works here at Moss Hill Elementary.
