School & District News

Lenoir County Public Schools is expanding and refreshing its lineup of summer programs, offering rising 6th through 12th-grade students a series of immersive and engaging experiences that blend academics, career exploration and hands-on learning.

Among the district’s middle school offerings is the Summer Bridge Academy, designed exclusively for rising sixth graders. The two-week program gives students a preview of middle school life, including academic sessions in English Language Arts and Math and workshops on time management, organization, and conflict resolution. Rising seventh and eighth graders can take part in STEM Adventures, which supports academic growth in math and literacy while introducing scientific inquiry, engineering challenges and leadership development.

For older students, LCPS is offering a series of Career Accelerator programs that give high school students a real-world glimpse into in-demand professions. ACE Academy, held at the Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing Center in Kinston, offers three levels of programming for students in grades 7–12, from introductory flight principles and drone use to flight simulation and short-term internships.

Another career-focused opportunity is District C, an eight-day entrepreneurship camp where students work in teams to solve a real-world business problem posed by a local company. Healthcare Heroes: Camp Scrubs offers students in grades 8 through 12 a deep dive into medical careers through hands-on activities, field experiences, and professional certifications in areas such as CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed.

In addition to career exposure and academic enrichment, LCPS is helping students recover academic credits through its High School Credit Recovery & Tutorial Academy. Rising 10th through 12th grade students can attend a two-week session at Kinston, North Lenoir, or South Lenoir High School, where they’ll receive personalized support in a more flexible, less formal learning environment.
